What are the rules of untouched food?

I went to meet a client for a coffee at a local chocolate shop.  I sat down and the table next to me had a plate of chocolate swirl where the dessert had been - it looked so good!  I could have EASILY dipped my finger in!  Is that bad?

Up and At 'Em or is it Up and Adam?


I am back to getting my bum up out of bed in the morning and working out.  It really sets the tone of the day with both how you feel (endorphins) and how you eat.  (I don’t want to eat what I spent so much time working off.)
I now have two goals; one to run faster and two to run the 10k.
Merilyn told me that the only way to run faster was to run faster.  Grrrrrrr.  And Tim S and all the websites say that sprint training will increase your pace.  So, twice a week I am committed to running sprints.  This morning I went back to my old c25k program to week 2.  http://easeinto5k.bluefinapps.com/
My sprints were:

Run 45 seconds
Walk 60 seconds
Run 60 seconds
Walk 90 seconds
Run 90 seconds
Walk 2 minutes

I did this three times and was sweating like an oinky – could not put makeup on before I left for work.
I loved the workout.

Onto the 10k


The Wyndham Fun Run in Werribee was my first race last year.  Instead of doing the 5k, I am going for the 10k.  The pookeys and girls are doing it again so if anyone else is interested, here is the information - http://www.wyndhamfunrun.org/

I do love it as it is really small and dodgy.

Just for clarification and confirmation - you won't run WITH me.  I don't run with anyone.  I am crabby and run ugly.   Let the training begin.

Looking hot or not

I have always maintained that I run ugly.  It is not being harsh, just factual.

 

So imagine my surprise when I learn yesterday after my race that there is a photo posted on Reddit in April of a guy now known as "Mr Ridiculously Photogenic."  And - he is!  He is ridiculously photogenic.  Who looks like that normally, let alone when they are running a race!  That is just crazy!

Should I be worrying about improving my 5k time, building up my endurance to 10k or what hair style/makeup I should have for the race?

6th 5k of the year!

Today I ran with Jim, Penny and Tim in the Color Run 5k - very fun.  I am questioning whether it was a full 5k as I ran it in 38:59 which is very good for me but I will take it.

Every km they throw different colors at you.  It was cute.  More interesting to me was that it was at Flemington Race Course.  Yes, I ran the straight at Flemington and felt like a horse!  It took me 2.30 minutes to run the straight, I think it takes the horses about 10 seconds.

Feeling icky

How come as soon as you are not quite right...all plans for healthy living go out the window?  I did eat well today but no exercise.  I just couldn't move.

Strategies for 5 Holiday Traps


Fat camp had a webinar last week on holiday eating.  Here are some tips they shared:

Bad Habit 1 – Too many sugary and alcoholic drinks
-          Drink your two litres of water/day
-          Drink your carbs OR eat them, NOT BOTH
-          Eat wisely before and after a party
-          Quantity matters – alcohol is liquid sugar
-          Don’t be fooled by diet drinks

Bad Habit 2 – Procrastinating workout
-          Exercise first thing and get it out of the way
-          Every 20 minutes helps

Bad Habit 3 – Being over stressed and emotional
-          Manage stress through exercise
-          Pack snacks to control blood sugar
-          Take time for you

Bad Habit 4 – Consistently lacking quality sleep
-          Finish dinner 3 hours before bed
-          Get great pillows/bed
-          Set a proper bed routine

Bad Habit 5 – Banking & Saving Calories is bad
-          Eat more to eat less
-          Have healthy brekkie and lunch prior to a party

Dylan is the devil, Lisa is the saint

I am really not doing well and wallowing in self pity because my weight is not going down.  But today, Lisa D reminded me that 100% is easy, 99% is a bitch.  You can't kind of diet which is what I have been doing.

Case in point...this arvo, Dylan had shopped at the American store and asked me if I wanted to split a Twinkie with him.  OF COURSE I WOULD!


But, I didn't.  100%
I had an apple and walked home.

It just goes to show you that after all this weight loss, I will still go back to old habits and old ways of eating.  SO FRUSTRATING!

Confessions

When you see my "Total Weight Lost" it is not updated weekly.  That is because if I gain weight, I don't have the total go up and down.  I don't want to go backwards so I keep it at the best weight until I go past it.  This worked until these last few months were I am going back and forth every week and now....I am just going the wrong way!



Yesterday's race pic - you can see the weight in my face and my dress didn't sit right on my bum.  Grrrr.

I have gained 6.2 pounds [2.8]!!
Are you kidding me?
I have no excuses.
Here is my plan.  My plan is to plan.  Have every day planned out on my food.
Go back to drinking the 2 litres of water.
Plan my exercise times.

SO HARD TO TAKE OFF...SO EASY TO PUT BACK ON!

Every little bit helps

I could not get energised to walk home from work today. I knew I only needed a 20 minute workout today as it was a rest day, so I walked for 10 and jogged for 10 because you can DO ANYTHING for 10 minutes.


More Habit Stuff

I can not tell you how much I am enjoying "The Power of Habit."  I was just reading this morning about craving - a topic I know a LOT about.  :)



Right now I am writing down all these triggers that get me to overeat:
anger
stress
tired
feeling deprived

I need to find positive rewards for changing my habits, but right now all I can think of are food rewards.  It is honestly the most motivating thing for me.  So, I am running every Saturday at the Tan and every Sunday around Albert Park Lake.  The reward is to go for brekkie afterwards, which in itself isn't terrible, but intrinsic rewards are just not enough.  I crave coffee and carbs and I don't crave a size 6 in the moment.  (Later in the day I crave a size 6 but that is not an instant reward.)

What would be another good reward that I could come to crave?

Energy highs and lows

This is the biggest difference since I have lost the weight...

I was at the grocery store today and realised when I got to the checkout that I left my recycle bags in the car.  I stopped and thought "I am three cars from the door.  It will not take me two minutes to get the bags."

There is no way the old me would have done it.  Everything use to seem so hard and tiring.  That is the problem with a high fat, high sugar diet.  You are always in energy highs and lows.  There is no real energy level.

The new me just left my basket with the customer service person, popped out to the car and popped back in.  It took 60 seconds and I made the earth a little better place.

A month of goodness

Did you every have one of those mornings when you step on the scale and you are expecting it to be absolutely terrible because I know what I ate on Tuesday and Thursday?  And no amount of good eating and exercise should count towards anything this morning when I stepped on that contraption that was only put on earth to cause me pain and misery?

I was down .2 pounds [.05k].

And I will take it because a loss is a loss.
So, I had four weeks of super bad.
Now I am going to have four weeks of super good!

Back on track

I know it is no secret that I have been eating and drinking my way through spring carnival.  I will have my official weight in tomorrow but I suspect I have put on 5 lbs. [2.2k]  And, I really have no excuses other than I was having fun and it was SO EASY to just enjoy myself and NOT WORRY about every little calorie I was shoving in my gob.



I did pay attention to certain things AND some things I gave up while other things I indulged.  Now, it is time to pay for those indulgences.

So, today I did get up and start my journey to the end of the year.  I want to lose 10 pounds [4.5k] by the end of the year and I will need to be super good - which I can be.  This morning I was at the Tan and running and tomorrow I plan on running Albert Park Lake which is a 5k.  I am on track.

The new site it called I Want Candy after that Bow Wow Wow song of the 80s and because I do want candy.  The site is going to have an 80s look/feel and will be super cute!

ANOTHER race day and I am having a blast, but the between the drinking and eating, I feel enormous.  And unhealthy.


I am up on the scales and I need to get control.  Thursday will be another big race day and then I am more or less done.  Not good.

This is what two glasses of champagne looks like

when you are sweating it out on the treadmill the next morning.

I think I have to run hard for about 12 minutes for each glass of champers I drink.  I had two on Thursday night and I really did not want to run this morning but needed to get the drinks off of my bum.

Conversation at the Rialto

Tazza -  "Where do you go to the gym?"
Victoria -  "There is a gym in my building and I belong to Jetts.  But, I also guest pass into Virgin for classes and the Hyatt.  Also, I try and run the Tan and Albert Park Lake once a week."
Tazza -  "How many times do you go around Albert Park Lake?"
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Maniacal laughter from Victoria.
Victoria - "How many times do you think I go around the Lake?  ONCE!  I can barely get around ONCE!  ONE!!!

While Terrie obviously doesn't understand my running abilities, the good news is that she may join me at zumba.  :)
