I can not tell you how much I am enjoying "The Power of Habit." I was just reading this morning about craving - a topic I know a LOT about. :)
Right now I am writing down all these triggers that get me to overeat:
anger
stress
tired
feeling deprived
I need to find positive rewards for changing my habits, but right now all I can think of are food rewards. It is honestly the most motivating thing for me. So, I am running every Saturday at the Tan and every Sunday around Albert Park Lake. The reward is to go for brekkie afterwards, which in itself isn't terrible, but intrinsic rewards are just not enough. I crave coffee and carbs and I don't crave a size 6 in the moment. (Later in the day I crave a size 6 but that is not an instant reward.)
What would be another good reward that I could come to crave?
miss v, i am the same. exam time always sees me eating copious amount of chocolate.
ReplyDeletewhat about rewards like watch new episodes of your favourite show, a ten minute sleep in or a manicure? i guess the hard thing is, we know we can have all these things whether or not we exercise, but they should be seen as a treat if we do :)
let me know if you come up with anything! i need non-chocolate treats in my life.

Now I think we did once talk about this one, but what about the Tiffany charms?

Not the cheapest reward but at the end of your journey the braclet would make an excellent reminder of what steps you took to get to your goal.
As Penny suggested you could give yourself the mani-pedis as small rewards inbetween the big ones.
I was going to say similar things to Penny... I treat myself with facials, pedicures and massages, but I love BlackBliss' idea of the Tiffany charms for you... It would have the same long term effects as eating the wrong foods ie a visual reminder of the consequences of your actions and a memento of what you have achieved.
ReplyDeleteBtw my triggers are the same as your first 3... Luckily since I have been made redundant I don't get stressed :)
I'm with massage, facials, new shoes, handbads, clothes (in smaller sizes!) including gym gear, concert tickets, holidays....
ReplyDeleteWhat about buying some beautiful flowers for yourself every week, with the money you don't spend on carbs? You can sit back and admire them, feeling smugly pure. Or a piece of exotic, tropical fruit or some yummy berries? Hmmm ... high in sugar I suppose.
