Need to get going on the exercise

So, I'm enjoying my eating this week, but...

I need to up my exercise.  My shingles leg is really sore so I just don't feel like it!  I know, I need to get over it.  I can't understand this chart.  Is this everyday?  I need to walk 43 minutes EVERY DAY?  My fitbit says I get about 5000 steps a day.  That is what I can do.  With my shingles leg.  :)

Sunday Weigh In

So... I did go up but it was a long weekend!!!  I am committed to when I have a slight up, the next week I need to make it down plus more down.  Did that make sense?

I am up .4 pound to 258.
I'm back on.
Not worried.

How do be good while at a seminar with snacky snacks around all day

My strategy for today-

1 - get up early and get a bit of exercise in - 20 minutes of being positive and good
2 - eat a delicious and nutritious breakfast/poached eggs with avo! :)
3 - don't sit near the snacky snacks
4 - don't meet for post seminar drinks
5 - keep tracking

Let's see how I do!!!! :)

Monday Motivation

Well, this is so true.  But I wish I would have remembered this when I was at Qantas club this afternoon.  The good news is that I tracked the food AND skipped dinner after my club treats.

Sunday Weigh In

It is MUCH easier to lose weight when you have a flatmate who is being super super diligent AND making your meals!  Also when it is so hot you don't feel like eating a big meal.
My challenges were I had a big client lunch and dinner but just did my best.
I lost 2.2 pounds this week.
I feel lighter.  :)

Funny Friday

This is always the conundrum which makes it so funny.  We all want to look better, but gosh, I don't want to give up cake!!!!!  Or martinis!!!!!  Or anything.

Can I catch a break?

The answer is...no.
My knees and ankles are feeling great, but I have had a numb leg since Utah and developed a rash while I was in Vegas.  It has been sooooo painful so I finally went and got it checked today.
I have shingles.
Yes it hurts so bad!
Yes the rash is disgusting and wont scab over for another few days.  Joy
Yes it hurts to walk.
It just hurts.

I got four different prescriptions today so hopefully I'll start to feel better, but the doctor said one month minimum before I feel better.

Geesh!

Sunday Weigh In

Well, it was really a Friday weigh in but really happy.  I was only here for 10 days and lost over 9 pounds!!!!!

My final weigh in is 256.8.  I am so happy with a 9.1 pound weigh loss.  I also lost an inch from my chest, waist and hips.

Tendonitis

I had to crawl to the bathroom.  Grrrrr....
I took two Aleve and woke up with my ankles feeling a bit better.

But, there is no doubt I won't be able to be in exercise classes today.  I will stay through lunch and the lecture and then go and meet Mary in Vegas.  No sense in staying if I can't do anything.  I was leaving tonight anyway.

I am still glad I did the hike - I really liked challenging myself that way.

My plan will be to relax this morning.  Try to feel better and get healthy prior to leaving.

Long plane ride coming up!

My PW and I'm still happy

It was a picture perfect day in Utah today.  I started my hike this morning in long Nike tshirt, jacket, vest, hat.  The sun was out and after only a few minutes, the hat was gone.  After about 20 minutes the jacket and vest was gone.  Right before baby stop sign, I stripped to my sports bra and put on just my tshirt.

I knew I could do stop sign but I didn't realise how in shape I use to be or how out of shape I was now.  I absolutely slowed it right down and had to take a lot of breaks to get to the top.  I did a PW, or personal worst.  It took me 2:15!  My PB was 1:15!!!!!!  I was just so happy to be out trying to get healthy and to be challenging myself.

Here I am at mini stop sign and I am feeling pretty good.  It took awhile to get there but was definitely feeling happy to be on the mission.  But from here is where it goes straight up.

Here I am at the end - not as cheerful but happy for the workout.

I was really interested in what my fitbit would say I did in stairs.  I didn't look until the end - 84.  That is a fair few.

The bad news is that my ankles are completely gone.  I can barely walk now.  It probably puts an end to most activities for tomorrow before I leave.  I am proud of my effort today and completely ASTOUNDED by my fitness level when I was coming here and doing this 8 or 9 times in two weeks.

Prepping for stop sign

Either Thursday or Friday I am planning on making it to the top of the canyon and to the big stop sign.  Boy, did I take my health for granted when I was walking to the top every day.  I have been doing the trail every day but not to the top.

Just a reminder that it was less than 12 weeks ago that I could barely walk!!!!  My knees were completely fluid filled, tender and painful.

On today's walk I was able to get a perfect picture of the top of stop sign.  I am about 1/6 of the way into the hike when you can see the ridge perfectly.  Remember, the full trail is 5 miles up 1000ft.  And really it is the last mile that is probably about 500 feet!!!!!!

So, I am getting ready.  I'm not sure my ankles or knees are ready but I want to accomplish this before I leave.

Desserts!!!!!

I know they are poison.
I am happy that fruit tastes so good when I am here.

But...

The desserts have been so good this week.  SMALL!!!!  But really good.

Chocolate chip cookies (It is dough you buy from Costco made from chickpeas.  The frozen dough supposedly tastes awful.  The cookies are delicious

Turtle pie is a vanilla pudding yogurt with chocolate shavings, two roasted almonds and a little bit of graham on the bottom.   This is the smallest ramekin you have ever seen.

The newest dessert is absolutely delightful.  SMORE!!!!!!  Two very tiny cookies, one marshmello toasted and four chocolate chips!  FOUR!  But it tasked yumm-o!

Talking about the weather makes you sound like an old person, but...

This is my post from last year while I was in Utah.

"I know I am going to walk this 5k but it is cold.  I put on a Nike Dri Fit with thumb holes and hoodie.  Then I layer a long sleeve cotton tshirt, a think sweatshirt, a Nike Dri Fit wind breaker and a sports vest.  Unfortunately, I only had on the one pair of pants.  Cap, scarf and gloves.

I was so cold.  My legs just wouldn't move.  I have no idea what my time was but surely it was well over an hour.  But...it was great to get a 5k out of the way!  Happy Friday.

I had on FOUR LAYERS and was still cold.  That is what is normal.
This was my Sunday afternoon (which is a rest day).  I did a bit of shopping and then read by the pool in a t-shirt.  I got some sun and little bit red!!!

Working out in pleasant weather is just so much easier than weather extremes.  But...no excuses.  I think it is rain the next two days so, if it ain't raining, you ain't training!

Sunday Weigh In

I am very happy to announce that I quickly jumped on the scale before breakfast and weighed in at 258.8.  I couldn't be more pleased.  It gets me very excited for my upcoming week.  I'm doing well with my goals and commitment.

Zion National Park

All the times I have been to Utah and I have never done Zion.  Zion is a US national park known for its beautiful hiking and trails.

https://www.zionnationalpark.com/

Because I can only walk on pavement, I never really gave it much thought.  I was talking with some ladies at dinner who were doing Zion.  Every Saturday, there is the opportunity for fat camp to take you hiking up there.  I thought it was only for the super fit hikers.  Well, after talking to Julie and Cozette, it seems there are easy, paved trails as well.  So... I signed up for a 6:30am departure and off we went.  (My departure prep was a bottle of water, my turkey sandwich and apple lunch bar, a hard boiled egg and almonds for snacks and a cup of granola and yogurt for brekkie.)

Just to be clear, I was going to be on my own because Julie and Cozette were hiking Angel's Landing.  This is 5.4 miles (8.7km) straight up to a point where you need to hold on by chains.  (Yes, it is one of those trails where people do die!)  I was NOT doing this one!!!!!!!

My hike ended up being easy with some hills (according to fitbit I did 19 flights of stairs) but was really pretty and leisurely.  I got to see a bit of the park and also relax as I was worried about my ankles tightening up.  A few pics from the trail -

I would do Zion regularly now as part of my routine.  It was busy but they say in the summer it is swamped.  They leave at 6am or they can't get a parking place.

Funny Friday

Usually, I don't do funny Fridays while I am at fat camp.  But...they showed this picture today and I just love it!!!!!   They asked us, "How do you see yourself?"  He then said, "People are more powerful, strong and smart than they think they are." Love.
