Monday Motivation - Retro February

I got to post 5 retro pics because of the leap day. :)  YEA! And number five is definitely the mantra that has inspired me the most.

Several years ago, I was reading People magazine. The first week of January is always their weight loss issue. In it, a beautiful young lady had lost over 100 pounds and I really related to her story. When they asked her a question about running, she responded "There will come a day when I can not run, today is not that day."

I have thought and said those words so many times. I need to say them every day as a reminder to myself.

And then I found this meme and posted it.

Sunday Weigh In

242.8

Lots of water weight - not stressing at all. I feel confident at the moment that this is something that is achievable.

Bootcamp

I have always felt a VERY negative connotation regarding boot camps. This idea of torturing everyone until the weakest link finishes just seems horrible.  And of course, I know that I would be the weakest link in any class.

But, Penny received 10!!! classes (with a friend) for an xmas present and it was time to start. Penny was kind enough to invite me along. (I am always asking for everyone to include me in workouts. So yes. Be careful what you ask for.) :)

Yesterday was our first bootcamp and I have to say it wasn't too bad although I can barely lift my arms this morning.

This was the workout in a nutshell:

Plank 30 seconds
Slow push up
Plank 20 seconds
Slow push up
Plank 15 seconds
Slow push up
Plank 10 seconds
Slow push up

I think we did that twice but it is all a blur.

Boxing
20 cross jabs with squat
100 high jabs
15 cross jabs with squat
100 high jabs
10 cross jabs with squat
100 high jabs

Hill runs

Jumping jacks in plank position
And then another really  hard exercise
Then....DONE!!!! :)

I did get over my fear of boot camp.
The instructor was nice.
Penny was a fun. motivating partner.

It's good to try new things.

I don't really want to go back. :)

Screw You McDonalds!!!

It is FINALLY time for me to take down the golden arches.

After almost FIVE years without McDonalds, I am taking down the counter on the side of my blog site. My last McDonalds meal was on 16 July 2011.  Honestly, I did think it would be okay to have it for a five year reunion.  Every 5 years I get to have a combo meal WITH caramel sundae.

But, no. I am not going to do it.
I am over it.  And although once in a very great while I will think to myself, "geesh, it would be so much easier to run through the drive thru - NO ONE WILL KNOW!!"  I would know and I just won't do that to my body at this point.

Maybe someday I will try it again. And if I do, I hope it tastes horrible.

Motivation Monday - Retro February

This is not my favorite mantra, but it is my favorite picture I have posted over the years. It really gets the message across and it cracks me up. I have come in last in more than one race. but I have been proud of myself every time. HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF MEANS EVERYTHING!

Sunday Weigh In

SO CLOSE!!!!!!  I know its difficult to lose over one pound per week but I really wanted to make it to the 230s. But I'll take what I got!  Almost another pound lost! 240.6!! I have lost 9.6 pounds this year and I am just ecstatic!

What do I need to do to be successful?
1 - Keep tracking every calorie
2 - Keep strength training
3 - Get to sleep
4 - Drink water

Funny Friday

Chris Pratt has had several different body shapes for different roles.  On Parks and Rec he sometimes looks a little more doughy. But, for movies like Zero Dark Thirty and Guardians of the Galaxy he has been ripped. I saw his response to the weight loss question and it was laugh out loud funny - because it is true!!!  I went to a dinner party last night and asked my hosts to not offer or serve alcohol or dessert to me. (I was happy for them to have either but no one ended up drinking and no dessert was offered or served.)

Darn you Sports Illustrated!

If you haven't heard (and many of you in AUS won't know) Sports Illustrated releases its annual swim suit edition next week and it is going to have three different covers:
1 - the classic anorexic model
2 - a sporty lady
3 - for the first time, a plus size model

I can't decide if I am happy that a cover FINALLY portrays women in a more realistic way or be bitterly disappointed that now overweight women are exploited the same way underweight women are?????

The model, Ashley Grahm is stunning and a size 16 - I am a 16 and I do not look like that while I frolic in the ocean. She has great body image and for that I applaud her. I am also happy the SI has put other body shapes on the cover.  Why this issue is necessary is a whole other discussion.

Finally I will just note that the sporty person is a MMA athlete, Ronda Rousey.  Her swimsuit is actually just paint on her body so good on you girl!  That is working out and making it look good!

Embarrassed by my lack of empathy

Since I have joined support groups on MFP, I have also added people I don't know to my home list - they are just people in the support group. Normally I wouldn't do that, but I am trying new things to stay on track.

One lady "JustRollMe" comments EVERY DAY!  She has logged in 240 days in a row. I don't know her story but this is what she wrote this week -

"For the very first time since June 7, which is the day I began counting calories and striving for health, my weekly weigh-in is a gain. Logically, I know it isn't physically possible to be anything other than water weight, because my logging is tight, etc. and the gain is .6, but still, I'd be lying if I said I'm not disappointed. But, I also know to keep my chin up."

All I kept thinking was that I could NOT believe that someone had seven months without one bad week! IMPOSSIBLE!!  So instead of feeling bad for her, I just felt bad for me! REALLY?  She is pouting about ONE WEEK?!?!?!?

Then I did come around to the fact that I am so heartless. I struggle with the numbers on the scale almost every day! I am demoralised by water weight. And if she is losing that much weight surely she must truly have a lot of weight to lose and be in a difficult situation. So, I looked her up and she has lost 63.2 pounds!!! And, obviously she has more to lose.

She has been so supportive of me and I will now be SUPER supportive of her - whoever she is!

Monday Motivation - Retro February

About ten years ago I read in a magazine, "if it ain't rainin', you ain't trainin'." And both Paula and I have used this as a mantra for bad weather for many years. But let's face it, if it is pouring outside, you just hop on a treadmill. It wasn't until I saw this picture that I thought...Victoria, get off your bum, get outside and get your workout done.  NO EXCUSES!

Sunday Weigh In

I forgot how GREAT Sunday weigh ins are when you know you are doing everything to be good to your self and your body. ANOTHER great week and the scale showed it.  I lost the 1.2 pounds again plus another.8 for a total of 2 pounds. This is where I need to just ABSOLUTELY IGNORE the scale once a month.  Who cares? It will come off the following week - and it did!!!

I am still really limiting my sugar.  (Have had very little processed sugar over the last six weeks.)
I have started my personal training concentrating on strength training.
I have logged and recorded my food in MFP for 43 days in a row.

Today I am 241.4.  I would love to have a really great week and get to the 30s again.  239.8.  I haven't been there since July.

Funny Friday

I am just about to go to the grocery store so this one really made me laugh.

Lookin' good

Andrew was kind enough to give me a ride to work today. As we get into the lift which is surrounded by mirrors, he states "I can tell in that dress that you have lost weight."So, I did a twirl and agreed with him. The dress felt looser when I put it on that morning. FEELS GREAT!

So exotic!!!

My treat at the grocery store this week was lychee! Normally I don't buy them because I never know how to pick good ones and they are so expensive. But I can buy any thing that is YUMMY and a whole food. So I ate 2 cups of lychee and they were delicious!

Motivation Monday - Retro February

This one gets used by a lot of people and it makes me laugh and it inspires. It plays with my mind. My mind that never wants to go and workout and it kicks it in the butt!

NO ONE regrets a workout so get off your bum Victoria!!!!!

Sunday Weigh In

Not good but not bad. I put the pound back on that I lost last week, but I am sick and not feeling well. My body is all screwed up so I am not worried at all.  I am back on it!

Funny Friday

Andrew's mom posted this on Facebook this week and...I did laugh.  Welcome Funny Friday.

goals and goal setting

My goal this week was to join the gym, get a trainer and to do two workouts today.
Done.
Done.  And...done.

I finally signed up to the Hyatt which I have been wanting to do for awhile. I had my first personal training session today and it went really well. I think my trainer was surprised at how fit I am.

And since it was Thursday, I also made a commitment to doing treading this morning which I did. Feels great to get all of this accomplished.  I have been eating out a lot the last few days but I skipped dessert at my meals today so I think I am doing alright.

I have a rest day tomorrow and then the Tan on Saturday.

proving once again...going to the gym is bad

I FINALLY got off my bum today and decided I would go join the gym. Knowing that I had a very busy day, I kept pushing it off. Finally, I realised at about 3:00 I needed to go NOW so that I could get back to the office as I would be staying very late.

BEAUTIFUL, SUNNY day.
On my way over to the gym, I hear a "plop." I look down on my shoulder and a bird poo-ed on me!!! On my beautiful, white dress.

Not a big deal as I was going to change into gym clothes anyway, but obviously I didn't put my dress back on after my workout! So I had to wear gym clothes to the office.

It is a good thing I am the boss.
It is a good thing I wasn't seeing any clients in the afternoon.
It is a good thing I look so great in lycra!!! :)

Monday Motivation - Retro February

For February, I am putting up a few of my favorite motivation pics.  I have about six or seven I think are gold and CONSTANTLY use as a source of inspiration. You will see my top few over the next couple of weeks.

My first retro motivation pic is not the mantra I use the most, but it is very often the visual I use when I am sprinting. I took a picture of this Lulu Lemon ad and I think of it just about every time I run.

RUN LIKE SOMEONE LEFT THE GATE OPEN!!!
