MFP thinks I eat too much

This was the discussion at lunch today:

Victoria: I really need to start tracking my food. All the research shows that it is a big factor in losing weight. I am going to start today and get back on My Fitness Pal.
Susie:  Here are the calories for today and tomorrow for our menu.
Victoria:  Thanks.  How did you do today?
Susie:  I'm not eating enough and it won't let me save the day yesterday.  Has that ever happened to you? If you don't hit 1000 calories, it starts sending you messages about how unhealthy it is and tells you to go and eat more food.

[very long pause]

Victoria:  No. I have never received that message.  MFP has NEVER told me to go and eat more food!!!!!

Sugar II

One of the other guests, Susie, has a puppy with her as part of anxiety therapy. The puppy is so cute. Susie mentioned she was going for a massage tonight so I offered to babysit her pup because I miss Sugar so badly!  So, I am cuddled up for bed and I have Sugar Jr with me. Not as cute but very very cute.

BFF w/ JR and SP

Today's hike through Malibu took be to the neighborhoods of some of the wealthiest and well known stars such as Julia Roberts and Sean Penn. Julia's house is very geometric and not my taste. Sean's house is whimsical and I liked the driveway which was really all I could see. I, of course, so noone except gardners working in the yards. But what a view! The oceanline backtracks so you have hazy views of LA, Westwood and a few other places I don't know.

To get up to this vista I had to hike up a pretty tough, windy road and was pretty proud of myself when I did it. Except on the way down, an old guy ran the whole thing. Oh well...

Stunning neighborhood. The smallest house was actually for sale - $11M. :)

I can't stop raving about the food!!!

Stuffed pork chops
Stuffed mushrooms
Vegetable lasagna
Chicken tostadas
Apple cobbler

And that is just the last few days!

I fee like I am back in Pt Coo!

On my flight home today instead of dessert... I just had a nice cup of tea. That is what the boys use to do back in the day. Now normally, United serves chocolate chip cookies and lets face it, I would NOT have said no to that. But I was lucky and they were serving sorbet, so it was easy to say no.  And...just have tea for dessert. :)

Paul's story

I am here with a fantastic guy - Paul. His story?

He started coming here about the same time I did and weighed in at ~390 pounds. Having a short walk on the property on the first day caused him a huge number of aches and pains. He felt he was doing this on his own and really felt his health was in so much danger he just needed to keep going.

Over the past few years he has struggled on and off before he really took control last January. I could NOT do what he does which is have the same brekkie, lunch and dinner every day. (But...I can and will plan!!!) He varies his snacks. He has a few off days. And in eleven months, he has lost 150 pounds. He looks absolutely amazing!

The best thing is that he is a genuinely nice guy. A reminder to all of us that we can do it but he still struggles every day and we just need to keep going. Getting to meet him has been a real honor this trip.

Sunday Weigh In

Well, of course I lost weight this week! :)
I am really enjoying my time here in Malibu and feel very fortunate.

My weigh in was 5.2 pounds lost! I am so happy with total.
This week is going to be a bit more difficult but I'll just do what I can.

Keep on keeping on!!!!!

My Baywatch Moment

This is why you come to Malibu - my hike this morning was at Zuma beach and was breathtaking. It was cool out but a really wonderful way to start the morning.

My favorite part was when we were walking back and the LAFP lifeguards showed up and yes...they have the orange Baywatch outfits on and zoomed along the beach like they were very cool. (They probably are very cool.)  This is a very bad pic of the lifeguard station and beach vehicles and guy, but it was so bright that pictures are just very glare-y.  But, you get the idea. Just a magnificent morning.

Cooking Demo

Obviously, I have loved the food since arriving and I had the chance to attend Chef's cooking demo. (I am actually going to cook with him on Sunday which I think will be super interesting!) I have asked to have him show me how he made the shrimp scampi. But we will cook together for three hours so I am really looking forward to that.

BTW - I haven't mentioned that our team breakdown. There are only SIX people here this week and it is amazingly 50% women/men. That never happens. It is usually all women and one guy.  So when I got to the cooking demo I had to take a picture - it was the three guys and me!!!

Lastly, take a look at tonight's delicious dinner - lamb cutlets with steamed veggie and salad.  It was lovely but I could have eaten about 5 plates of it! :)

Everyone in LA is on the D list

I got to take class with our zumba instructor today - Derrick. Actually, I got to take a few classes with him and it was the best zumba ever. Today's class was pool zumba and it went sooooo quick. It was the quickest 45 minute class of my life! And super fun. And a super great workout.

Derrick had quite a few name drops during his class. It was very funny.
Currently he is teaching for Debbie Allen at her LA studio.
And his big claim to fame is being a dancer on the Richard Simmon's video.  He is the one in the red scarf.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P9Vww3Tlbo

I ended the day with a well deserved deep tissue massage.  Mmmmmmm.....

This is like fine dining...

Today's meals?
Chicken piccata for lunch and ribs for dinner...the one thing I am learning is that I really need a private chef!

Most delicious meal ever!!!!!

Today's menu....
Pizza for lunch - delicious!
Dinner was shrimp scamp with asparagus and a poached pear for dessert. YUM YUM YUM!!!! Both dishes look like they could have come from a high end restaurant. They tasted like it as well.

The chef told me the following:
 - pasta noodles are quinoa and you get a few more since they aren't flour bases
 - the sauce is made with white white, garlic and a bit of butter to make it cloudy
 - the pears where poached in a little bit of apple juice

Now this is motivation from a trainer!

One of my big goals this time is to get more comfortable with weights, weigh lifting and core exercise. Muscle burns calories and it is the thing I am always so quick to skip.

I am so excited that the strength trainer here at fat camp was a large man himself. I always feel that a trainer that has had to struggle with weight loss him/herself just has a better understanding.

Jordon's story is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E4yFCiAKBA

This was today's workout and my abs and obliques are screaming!

I can't believe how out of shape I have gotten so quickly.  I could not plank for 45 seconds!

Another reason to not like or trust my Apple Watch

After a full day at fat camp - here is my reading:

Burned 357 calories
Exercise for 7 minutes
Stand time 8/12 hours

Really????

Monday Schedule

Unlike some of the other fat camps, Monday is a gently type of day.  We are easing into the activities.

6:45 - Weigh In
7:00 - brekkie
8:00 - hike
11:15 - lecture - Food is Fuel
12:15 - lunch
2:00 - HIIT class
2:45 - Well Fuel ??
3:15 - treadmill
3:45 - aqua assessment?
4:00 - aqua fit
5:15 - lecture
6:15 - dinner

My morning started off pretty bad. I weighed in at 250.2.  I NEVER thought I would weight 240 again, let alone 250. It was awful. But at the same time I was empowered because I thought "in one week, I will weigh less - guaranteed." And that made me feel better.

Southern California is beautiful but I just don't want an earthquake while I am here. :)

Monday Motivation

Sunday Weigh In

Will actually be Monday weigh in! I made the 20 hour flight to LA and am in STUNNING Malibu. This is by far, the prettiest of the resorts.

I will get my weigh in tomorrow morning at 7am.

My first goal of the week is to stay positive.

I am completely jet-lagged so off to bed!
