It has been driving me crazy that I can not do one push up. Actually, I have had a weak upper body since birth. :) I remember being tested in seventh grade in the bent arm hang. To this day, I can remember how embarrassed I was that I only lasted four seconds!
Absolutely NO upper body strength.
One of my goals that I am really excited about is adding weight training to my schedule. I have always slacked on this. (INCLUDING my time at fat camp. I would consistently skip my weights/core class everyday.)
I know that the more muscle I build, the more calories I will burn, so I am on a mission to keep up my training. And, one of the great things is that you really only need your body to lift weights! So, while I am using the machines at the gym, I am also doing the following exercises 4-5 times/week.
Plank - 45 seconds
Situps - 10 with no help
Jumping Jacks - 30
Tridips - 10 (I should probably be doing 3 sets of 10. Need to look at this.)
Pushups - 10 against the wall
Leglifts - 5
When I went to do my pushups, I could not do 1. So that is when I started doing them against the wall. I wasn't EXACTLY sure what the actual progression would be. When would I be able to start doing a normal push up??? And then I read this - http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/02/15/proper-push-up/
Nerd fitness guy gives a great explanation on how to start and when to progress.
If I stay really committed to this program, maybe I can do one pushup by xmas???
