New Family Tradition

A few days ago, I mentioned to Scab that I would like to do a Jingle Bell 5k if I could find one.  He suggested we just do one ourselves, so I organised one.  I mapped the route, I sent out registration forms to the members of the Kluth Aumann family and I had the girls make us race bibs.  (The race bibs didn't need numbers because there was only three of us.  The girls made us themed bibs.  I was "presents."  Paula was "ginger bread."  Scab was "christmas tree."

The bibs -

On Christmas Eve morning, Presents, Gingerbread and Christmas Tree did the 5k around Oak Park.  Then, Erma and Willa joined us for a kids 1 mile on the last trek of the course.

The race started out competitively but it was soon obvious that technical definition of running was not going to get me to first place.

It was so much fun and the absolute BEST PRESENT from my family.

I know you are dying to know the results.
Christmas Tree won the 5k.  Here he is on the winners podium.

Erma won the 8 year old race.
Willa won the 7 year old race.

Is it too early to discuss NY resolutions?

Just found out a friend of mine has been diagnosed with a disease.  It is so easy to forget that I AM HEALTHY!  I am fat, but healthy.  I can work out.  I get to work out.

Every morning, starting tomorrow, I am going to say, "I don't have to work out, I GET TO WORK OUT!"

I am a plus one

Since I measure everything by song while I am running...
1 song to get up the hill at the tan
4 songs to get from the point to the end of my run at Albert Park
   4 songs for a km
   5 songs for a mile
...I have decided to add songs onto my run every week to get to my 10k.  So this week as I ran around Albert Park Lake, I back tracked and ran another song when I got to the end.

Surrender by Cheap Trick :)

It was suppose to be 94*

But it is a balmy 97* [38*C] today so I didn't make it to the Tan for a run.  Considering it is over 100* everyday at fat camp, I really can't complain but I just didn't want to run in the heat.  No excuses tomorrow - it is only suppose to be 66*!

Size matters

In an effort to get control, I am doing a great job of sticking to my standard brekkie and lunches.  Brekkie is a bowl of multigrain Cheerios and lunch is a small can of tuna on Kruskits with tomato.  This morning I tried something new which I loved.  I put my Cheerios in a big mug instead of a bowl.  It looks like a lot because it is in a small container so my eyes see a lot of food.  Also, it is a natural measuring cup, so that works out as well.

sneaky, sneaky

I just realised that I have been drinking some hidden calories.  I have always counted coffee and tea as "free" because of the small amount of milk and one or two a day isn't a big deal.  But since I am back in sales, I am having 5-8 minimum coffees and teas per day.  5 coffees could be 750 calories!  So, I am trying to drink less, but more importantly, I am counting them in my calorie count and my calorie log.

I should just be drinking more water!!!!

I had a wedding last night

Did you know that a Lychee martini is 163 calories?

163 Lychee martini #1
163 Lychee martini #2
214 Double cafe patron shot
540 TOTAL alcohol calories

I really don't need to type anything else about the wedding, do I?

Do we need research to know that crazy diets don't work?

I was reading my Habits book AGAIN about some research that showed sustainable habit change is what works for long term weight loss.  :)  And not eating cake every day.  (ok - I wrote that last part, it is not research)

A group of researchers noted that when they studied 1600 obese people the single success factor was those that TRACKED THEIR DAILY FOOD INTAKE.  I have been an advocate of this for forever.  But, like everyone else, I forget to log or I don't write everything down.

After reading this today, I am not skipping ANY days with tracking.  100% goal.  If I eat it, I will track it.  I will track everyday.
