Getting high

Here is a poll:
1 - How many of you have felt a runner's high or an endorphin rush?
2 - If yes, what were you doing when it kicked in?

Andrew, my roommate, and I were talking yesterday and he was surprised I have NEVER got an endorphins kick. Not only that, I have NEVER craved to do any exercise, probably because I haven't felt the euphoria that comes with it. He gets it all the time and I was very jealous as he talked about it.

I admit, I do feel better after I workout. No doubt.
I am always glad I did the workout but never have been high.

So, I googled it. And it turns out they don't really know exactly what causes it or why some get it and some don't.  But guys get it more frequently. Enjoying the exercise you are doing helps. Good luck with that!!! HA!

I did think this was funny - someone got a tattoo of the runner's high chemical compound.

On a separate note, I have gone two days without dessert. WOW!

  1. That is one of the worst-looking foots I have seen. Here's a tip: look at that foot when you are hungry. Instant appetite killer. Maybe you're thinking the runner high is an overwhelming, full-body experience when it occurs. For me, occasionally and sometimes multiple times during a run, I feel as though I have extra energy and I can easily increase my pace for a short burst. The feeling is not long-lived. However, I always feel awful/guilty when I miss a day that I planned to run.

  2. The only thing I get is a (very occasional) feeling of goodness. I'm like "Yay, I'm running, running is awesome, isn't it great to be outside running with my buddies and having a good time!" I get it maybe once every six months or so?
